Welcome to Barkpacker!

We are an online resource and community for those who wish to travel long distances on a budget with their small - medium sized, well behaved furry companions. If you have a tip about your hometown or destinations you've traveled to with a pup in the past, send over an email and I'll be sure to include it in the site. The idea is to come together as dog-lovers to help fellow dog-lovers live out their dreams of seeing the world with their fur babies.

PS: Barkpacking is more than just having a companion to travel with. It's important to understand that many sacrifices and compromises will have to be made when taking a dog with you. This is a trip for you and your pup equally and should be planned and carried out accordingly.

The last thing you'd expect when traveling with your dog

Having done the whole backpacking thing before, I was a bit nervous that this traveling with a dog thing would cripple me socially. First day in and that certainly wasn't the case... read more

Into the forest - the start of a 3-week Workaway in Germany

I knew this trip would be much more expensive than traveling alone and couldn't afford accommodation for two months, so I reached out to several workaways that looked right up our alley and ended up choosing two. Our first one was 3 weeks in western Germany in the Eifel region. Literally in the middle of nowhere... read more

"I created Barkpacker because after nearly 4 months of traveling by myself, the hardest part was being away from my Olive. I found that there were little to no online resources that gave me solid information about traveling abroad with a dog. I want more people to know it's possible to take their fur babies on an international adventure by providing any and all information I had to dig deep for. I also wanted to create a community of people and their dogs around the world to collect insights, share stories and maybe someday travel together!"
